"SHE SMELLED DELICIOUS. LIKE BACON."

Those bastards at Blogger have finally made me switch from the old system to the new. So if this SOMEHOW LOOKS REALLY WEIRD, it's their fault.

So it's Friday. This week was crazy because I had to make a recording of some arias (er, "opera songs") and that is STRESSFUL because auditions are for once, but recordings are forever, yo. So your brain's like "THIS BETTER BE GOOD IS THIS GOOD ARE YOU DOING A GOOD JOB OMG DO IT BETTEEEEER." Whereas in an audition, it's kinda like "Hahaha fuck it, this is for six minutes then I'm out."

Speaking of capitalizing things, have we all read Growing Up Cullen? I don't know if this is just known on Livejournal or if it's on the interwebs at large. In any case, it's a Twilight thing in the form of a posted chat. In which Edward is turned into a 40-year-old mom. Some highlights:

balcarin: NO ONE UNDERSTANDS MEEE HE WOULD SEETHE AS HE PRESSED HIS WILDFLOWERS

balcarin: i bet he did bella's bathroom too
balcarin: when he got tired of watching her sleep
welurklate: he has gloves and everything
welurklate: he gets in there all like scrubs shit
balcarin: and gets pissy if anyone touches his specially organised bucket
balcarin: WHO WAS TOUCHING MY CLEANING SUPPLIES???
welurklate: EMMETT, DON'T TOUCH MY WINDEX
welurklate: YOU USED ALL MY FEBREZE LAST WEEK AND I LET IT GO BUT THIS IS TOO MUCH
welurklate: I AM PUTTING MY FOOT DOWN

Yeah, so it's the best.

Because of said recording, I didn't really feel like reading. I finished Emma Donoghue's The Sealed Letter, to which I say "REALLY, Emma?" Because you think it's going to be full of forbidden Victorian sexytimes and secret lesbians, but then it's pretty much just "The narrator's a lesbian! But we're only gonna vaguely reference that. Also it's mainly about a divorce case in 1864 where a lady cheated on her husband with a dude. Sooooo kind of boring."

To be fair, she does a good job setting up the background, and now I know a lot more about divorce law and SPEW (IT WAS A REAL THING -- Society for Promoting the Employment of Women) and Victorian feminism. But would I recommend it? Nah.

Everyone just read Tipping the Velvet, Fingersmith and Kissing the Witch. Those're the best of Waters and Donoghue.

So I didn't really feel like reading actual books, but what I DID read was an 86,000 word fanfic about Emma Swan and Regina Mills from Once Upon a Time. Their ship is called Swan Queen. OH THE CLEVERNESS. Also I watched this vid like 20 times and then Megs made fun of it for being overly emotional. I DO OPERA -- OVERLY EMOTIONAL IS OUR MEDIUM.

My niece is getting christened this weekend, even though she is a TINY BABY AND WILL NOT REMEMBER IT, so Imma go check that out. Everyone have a pleasant and fall-y weekend. Leaves are changing! Everything is pumpkin-flavored! Boot season is back! So many reasons to rejoice.

Book Blogger Hop, Pt II

All right. The question for this week is:  "Do you read only one book at a time, or do you have several going at once?" Oh-ho my. I have an issue with book commitment. I start a new book, and it's exciting and fresh, and I get really jazzed about it, and then 20% of the way through, almost without fail, I start getting bored and want to start another book. I once had seven books going at the same time, because I kept getting bored and starting new ones. It's a sickness. Right now I'm being pretty good and working on The Monk , Northanger Abbey , Kissing the Witch , and I'm about to start Waiting for the Barbarians since my friend lent it to me. But The Monk and NA are basically books I only read when I'm at work, so I don't see it so much as working on four books, as having books in different locales. Yes. This entry wasn't as good as some of the others, but I shall rally on the morrow. Yes I shall.

Fanfiction and Why It Doesn't Suck

Like most female 20somethings, I was at one point very into the fangirling scene. I wrote fanfiction, I made music videos, put together fanmixes, and created horrible graphics using a version of Photoshop I or someone bearing a resemblance to me possibly downloaded in my college dorm room off Limewire. I would here like to interrupt myself by stating that perhaps “most” was the wrong word, as I have met many normal female 20somethings who don’t have a fricking clue what I’m talking about when I use words like “fangirl” or “ship” as a verb involving the romantic involvement of two fictional people. So by “most” I mean “most of the people I met online in fangirl communities.” Or perhaps “all” in that case. Anyway. Fanfiction is probably always going to be controversial, in the dumbest way something can be controversial. Are we talking about climate change? Well, no, we’re talking about whether or not it’s at all okay for a 15-year-old to write a scene where Mulder and Scully get stuck ...

Harry Potter 2013 Readalong Signup Post of Amazingness and Jollity

Okay, people. Here it is. Where you sign up to read the entire Harry Potter series (or to reminisce fondly), starting January 2013, assuming we all survive the Mayan apocalypse. I don't think I'm even going to get to Tina and Bette's reunion on The L Word until after Christmas, so here's hopin'. You guys know how this works. Sign up if you want to. If you're new to the blog, know that we are mostly not going to take this seriously. And when we do take it seriously, it's going to be all Monty Python quotes when we disagree on something like the other person's opinion on Draco Malfoy. So be prepared for your parents being likened to hamsters. If you want to write lengthy, heartfelt essays, that is SWELL. But this is maybe not the readalong for you. It's gonna be more posts with this sort of thing: We're starting Sorceror's/Philosopher's Stone January 4th. Posts will be on Fridays. The first post will be some sort of hilar...
